Senator John Cornyn
In 2020, Texans overwhelmingly re-elected Senator John Cornyn to represent them for a fourth term in the U.S. Senate.
Since his first election in 2002, Senator Cornyn has built a national reputation as an articulate and powerful voice for Texas values in Washington. A San Antonio native, he believes strongly in bringing Texas solutions to the federal level, consistently working to apply the Lone Star State’s commonsense approach to national challenges.
Senator Cornyn is committed to strengthening national defense, securing the border, repairing the broken immigration system, and fostering economic growth by keeping taxes low, reducing federal spending, and fighting burdensome regulations from Washington bureaucrats. He is also a tireless advocate for Texas military personnel, veterans, and their families, working year after year to ensure they receive the support, care, and benefits they deserve.
He serves on the Senate Finance, Intelligence, and Judiciary Committees, where he crafts legislation on behalf of more than 30 million Texans. From 2013 to 2018, his colleagues elected him to serve as the Whip, the second-highest-ranking position in the Senate Republican Conference.
Senator Cornyn has served the people of Texas for nearly four decades—as a district judge, a member of the Texas Supreme Court, and Texas Attorney General. He earned his undergraduate degree from Trinity University, his law degree from St. Mary’s School of Law, and his LL.M. from the University of Virginia School of Law.
He married his wife, Sandy, in 1979, and they have two grown daughters.
